From July 2007 until November 2009, Paula was a weekly contributor to the Huntsville Forester. Her series of profiles, called the Muskoka Mosaic, aimed to foster a stronger sense of community by offering insight into the lives, concerns and thoughts of people readers might otherwise never know about.

After 20 years as chief of emergency medicine at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto and a stint as president of the Toronto chapter of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning group International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, Dr. Ian Hastie spent 14 years in the Sultanate of Oman helping to develop the medical system there.
